1) DIGITAL SOUND PRODUCTION

11 weeks
The aim of the module is to teach the operation of Pro Tools, an industry standard audio recording and editing system. It will also teach how to use Pro Tools to mix in a studio environment. At the end of the module participants will take the Pro Tools 101 exam.

Topics Include:
• Recording audio onto Pro Tools
• Using editing modes and tools
• Mixing concepts, including the use of plug-ins
• MIDI in Pro Tools
• Dynamic controllers
• Equalisation
• 'Train the trainer' and music business lectures

2) STUDIO TECHNIQUES

8 weeks
The aim of this module is to equip you with the skills and knowledge to engineer music in a multi-track recording studio. By the end of the module you will have planned and recorded a session to professional standard.

Topics include:
• Planning and organising a recording session
• Mixing desk operation
• Microphone placement
• Digital recording
• Analogue recording and synchronisation
• 'Train the trainer' and music business lectures

3) INTRODUCTION TO SYNTHESIS & MIDI

7 weeks
The aim of this module is to analyse and apply the techniquesand procedures involved in the production of music using computers and related technologies.

Topics include:
• Understanding MIDI
• MIDI sequencing
• Synthesis & Sampling
• 'Train the trainer' and music business lectures
